Who are we ?

January 2024 saw the formation of the Ukulele Band of Bury better known as the UkyBoBs. We are an amateur group of like-minded musicians who meet at the Church House behind the Parish Church in Bury each Tuesday morning. We meet to play music and sing. The main instrument played by the UkyBoBs is the ukulele, an instrument which is the same shape as a guitar. It has four strings and is smaller than a normal guitar. It is an easy instrument to master and with practice you can achieve amazing sounds. We also have a rhythm section of a drum box and bass guitar. The singing forms part of the sound and requires enthusiasm and commitment. To join the group all you need is a Ukulele, the willingness to participate and have a good time. No playing experience is necessary. The club welcomes new members and are happy to mentor them. Formal tuition is not given although some short technical sessions are sometimes included during the Tuesday sessions led by some of the more accomplished players. UkyBoBs want to become more involved in the community taking our music and enthusiasm into groups who would enjoy and benefit from our performance. It is well known that there are beneficial health benefits in reducing the development of memory issues and helping improve mental health. It also reduces social isolation. With this in mind the group has already undertaken a number of events in places such as local care homes, and groups for persons who are affected by memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease.
